The midfield functions as a powerful engine with a three man midfield containing a carrier and two central players. Çalhanoğlu acts as the deep lying playmaker to recycle possession and switch play. Barella works to win the second ball and drive forward with the ball to link the defensive and attacking lines. Sucic supports the middle to connect the play and ensures the team stays solid when the opposition tries to play through the middle.

The attack uses two forwards in a partnership to pin the last defender. Martínez acts as a pressing centre forward to trigger the press from the front while Thuram uses his pace to hit in behind on the transition. Dimarco provides immense width from the left as an attacking wing back to whip it in from deep or deliver early crosses. The TBD player on the right side works to balance the width and offers an outlet to spread wide when the central lanes are blocked.

This formation offers several tactical advantages such as numerical superiority in midfield to control the tempo. The presence of Dimarco allows for wide overloads when he overlaps the winger to create crossing opportunities.
