Arsenal Football Formation
Starting Lineup
RAYA (Meslier) · TIMBER (Stanisic) · SALIBA (B.White) · GABRIEL (Mosquera) · CALAFIORI (Hincapie) · B.GUIMARES (Zubimendi) · RICE (L.Skelly) · ODEGAARD (Eze) · SAKA (Madueke/Dowman) · VINICIUS (Tzolis) · GYOKERES (Havertz/G.Jesus)Arsenal aims to control the game through high pressing and heavy possession in a 4-3-3. This lineup is built to dominate territory and win the ball back high up the pitch. The goal is to move the ball quickly through the lines to catch the opposition out of position.
Raya acts as the goalkeeper, starting the build up from the back. The back line uses a flat back four where Saliba plays as a ball playing centre back with great composure and recovery speed. Gabriel sits beside him as a dominant defender in the air to clear the lines. Calafiori operates as an attacking left back to provide width, while Timber works as a defensive right back to cover the flank. The unit works to squeeze the space and hold a high line to keep the team compact.
The midfield relies on a three man midfield with a carrier and a creative hub. Rice acts as the single pivot to shield the defence and win the second ball. B.Guimares works alongside him to drive forward with the ball and connect the lines. Odegaard plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to receive on the half turn and split the defence with a through ball. This trio works to compress the midfield and press in a mid-block when the ball is lost.
Arsenal uses three attackers across the front to stretch the defence. Gyokeres acts as a pressing centre forward who can hold up the ball and lead the line. Vinicius plays as an inverted winger on the left who loves to cut inside and take on defenders. Saka stays wide on the right as an inverted winger to create chances or get to the byline. They work in combinations to isolate a one on one wide and create runs in behind the opposition back line.
One major advantage for Arsenal is the ability to press high in coordinated waves to win the ball back near the opponent's goal. The team also benefits from wide overloads when Calafiori and Vinicius push forward together. This creates numerical superiority in the final third and forces the opposition to defend deep.
This formation is designed for a team that wants to suffocate the opponent with high intensity. It is best suited for matches against sides that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
