Svilar acts as the last line of defense, playing behind a back three. Mancini serves as the right centre-back, using his aerial strength and physical presence to win headers. Hermoso occupies the left centre-back spot, acting as a ball playing defender to help build from the back. Ndicka sits in the middle of the defensive unit to cover space and intercept passes. This back three remains compact to prevent through balls while looking to step up and squeeze the space when the team presses.

The midfield operates with a central block designed to control the middle of the pitch. Cristante plays as the primary screen to shield the defense and win the second ball. Koné plays as an attacking midfielder, driving forward with the ball to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Wesley and Rensch occupy the central roles, with Wesley tasked to carry the ball forward and Rensch helping to recycle possession. This midfield unit works to disrupt the opposition and quickly move the ball to the attacking players.

Roma uses three attackers to pin the last defender of the opposition. Malen leads the line as a pressing centre-forward, making runs in behind to stretch the defense.
