Anderlecht aims to overwhelm opponents through constant pressure and high numbers in the final third, operating with a highly aggressive 2-4-4 formation. This lineup is built to play a heavy vertical game, looking to pin the opposition back and strike quickly. The goal is to create chaos in the opposition box by flooding the attacking zones, making it difficult for the other team to clear the ball or build play from the back.

Coosemans sits between the posts to manage the space left behind the defensive line. The back line is a very narrow two man unit consisting of Biancone and Petrot. Both Biancone and Petrot must act as covering defenders, often needing to sweep behind a high line when the opposition attempts to hit in behind on the transition. Because there are only two central defenders, they must hold a compact shape and be ready to step up to intercept passes, as they have very little protection from a traditional back four.

The midfield quartet works to control the central and wide areas through a four man block. Saliba and Kana operate as the central pair, where Saliba looks to win the second ball and Kana acts as a carrier to drive the ball forward. On the flanks, Mamaar and N'diaye provide the necessary width to stretch the defence. Mamaar and N'diaye need to track back constantly to assist the two defenders, while also being ready to trigger a press as soon as possession is lost in the middle of the pitch.

In the final third, Anderlecht uses four attackers to pin the last defender. Sikan and Cvetko play as a central partnership, often working to win the header or find space between the lines to combine in tight spaces. Antman and Karabac act as wide attackers, with Antman and Karabac looking to cut inside to create goal scoring chances or deliver a cross from the byline. The movement of Sikan and Cvetko is designed to pull the opposing centre backs out of position, creating room for the midfielders to arrive late into the box.

This formation offers incredible numerical superiority in the attacking phase, making it very difficult for opponents to defend the central channels. The ability to press high in coordinated waves allows Anderlecht to win it back high up the pitch and launch immediate attacks. By having so many bodies near the goal, the team can overwhelm a low block and create high quality chances through sheer volume of runners.

The 2-4-4 lineup is a high risk, high reward system built for total offensive dominance. It is best suited for matches against teams that sit deep and struggle to handle intense, concentrated pressure.
