This extremely high line requires both central defenders to step up and manage the space behind them, often sweeping behind the defensive unit to intercept long balls.

The midfield is a dense five man block designed to control the middle thirds. Gaaei and Henrique operate as a double pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. In the half spaces, Álvarez and Klaassen drive forward with the ball to connect the lines. Brandt operates as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to find pockets of space and play through the lines. This midfield setup ensures Ajax can win the second ball and immediately transition into attack.

The attacking front three provides width and central presence. Godts and Berghuis act as wide wingers who stay high to stretch the defense, with Godts looking to cut inside to create goal scoring chances. Leonardo operates as a lone striker, working to hold up the ball and link up play with the players behind him. The team builds the attack by using the wide players to spread the field, creating opportunities to hit in behind on the transition or find Leonardo in tight spaces.
