Ajax looks to control the ball and control the tempo through a 4-3-3 formation. This lineup is built to play a possession based style that seeks to dominate the pitch. The goal is to maintain high control and move the ball through the thirds to find gaps in the opposition defense.

Ter Stegen plays between the posts to start the build up. The defensive unit works as a flat back four to keep the team compact. Blind plays as a right sided center back and is able to play out from the back. Baas sits alongside him as the left sided center back to provide cover and stability. Rosa acts as a right back to provide width, while Henrique operates as a left back to help the team progress. The back line stays connected to avoid leaving space behind.

The midfield operates as a three man midfield with a carrier and creators. Regeer works in the right channel to drive forward with the ball and connect the lines. Mokio plays on the left side of the midfield to help recycle possession and protect the center. Brandt plays in the hole as an attacking ten behind the striker to find space between the lines. This trio works to squeeze the space in the center and win the ball back high up the pitch.

Ajax uses three attackers across the front to stretch the defense. Leonardo acts as a lone striker to hold up the ball and pin the last defender. Berghuis plays as a right winger who likes to cut inside to create chances. Godts plays as a left winger to spread the play and provide width. These attackers press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. The front three look to play one twos and find runs in behind to catch the defense off guard.

This formation offers several tactical advantages. The midfield trio can create numerical superiority in the center of the pitch to control the game. The wide players and full backs can combine to create wide overloads. Ajax also benefits from the ability to press in a mid block to win the ball back quickly.

The 4-3-3 lineup focuses on ball retention and high pressure to dominate the game. This setup is best suited for facing teams that defend in a low block and struggle to deal with constant pressure.
