David Raya operates between the posts to start play from the back. Ahead of him, Arsenal uses a flat back four that stays high to keep the team compact. W.Saliba and Gabriel form the central pairing, with W.Saliba acting as a ball playing defender and Gabriel providing aerial strength. Jurriën Timber plays as a right back to provide defensive cover, while R.Caliafiori acts as an attacking left back to push forward and support the left flank.

The midfield is a busy five man unit designed to dominate the central areas. Declan Rice sits in a deep role to shield the defence and intercept passes, while Bruno Guimarães works alongside him to press aggressively and win the second ball. M.Ødegaard operates in the center to connect the lines and play through the lines with his passing range. On either side, Bukayo Saka and Vinícius Jr occupy the half spaces, with Vinícius Jr using his dribbling style to drive forward and Saka to provide width and threat.

Kai Havertz leads the line as a lone striker who works hard to press the opposition back line. He is not just a goal threat but also a player who can hold up the ball to allow the midfielders to join the attack. The team builds the attack by using the wide players to stretch the defence, creating space for M.Ødegaard to find the feet of the striker. The wingers often cut inside to create overloads, which allows the full backs to overlap and deliver crosses.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to press in coordinated waves.
