Hakimi uses his pace as an attacking wing back on the right to push up the flank, whereas Nuno Mendes performs a similar role on the left to provide width. This unit can drop into a low block or step up to squeeze the space in a high line.

The midfield functions as a double pivot consisting of Vitinha and João Névés. Vitinha works to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often dropping deep to receive the ball and play short from the back. João Névés sits more centrally to shield the defence and win the second ball. Together, they try to recycle possession and press in a mid-block to prevent the opposition from playing through the lines. They must be ready to cover the gaps left when the wing backs push forward.

In the final third, PSG uses three attackers to stretch the defence. Kvaratskhelia operates as an inverted winger on the left, using his dribbling to cut inside and find the feet of the striker. M. Godts stays wide on the right to provide an outlet and whip it in. Mayulu acts as the central presence, holding up the ball and making runs in behind to find space. The attack relies on the wing backs to overlap the winger, creating situations to deliver early balls into the box.

This formation offers great wide overloads because Hakimi and Nuno Mendes push high while the wingers move inside. The team can also maintain compactness when defending by having three central defenders and two midfielders in a narrow block. Another strength is the speed of transition, allowing the players to break quickly once they win it back high up the pitch.
