Gérson and L. Henrique work alongside Wesley and M. Pereira to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Wesley and M. Pereira occupy the central areas to recycle possession, while Gregore and Gérson press in a mid-block to win the ball back. This group can shift horizontally to squeeze the space and deny the pivot.

L. Rodríguez acts as a lone striker and is tasked with holding up the ball to allow the midfielders to push up. He works as a pressing centre-forward to disrupt the opposition back line from the front. When Cruzeiro wins the ball, the midfielders look to hit in behind on the transition by playing through the lines to find him. The team uses the wide players to stretch the defence and look for cutbacks from the byline once they reach the final third.
