Celtic aims to dominate matches through a high press and quick transitions using a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup focuses on controlling the central areas while utilizing wing backs to provide the necessary width. The tactical identity is built around winning the ball back high up the pitch to catch opponents out of position.

Sinisalo acts as the goalkeeper, protected by a back five that can shift between a deep and a mid block. The central defense features CDM/CM, who sits in front of the line, alongside CCV/CB and TRUSTY/SCALES. TRUSTY/SCALES provides strength in the air and helps cover the space behind when the team pushes up. TIERNEY/LB and RB/DONAVON function as attacking wing backs, tasked with stretching the pitch and providing crosses. The unit works to stay compact to deny the turn to opposition attackers.

The midfield operates as a three-man midfield with a carrier and creative specialists. BAUR/MCGREGOR sits as the anchor to shield the defense and recycle possession. To his left, YANG/JOTA acts as an inverted eight, looking to find space in the half-spaces. GHEDJEMIS/HASSAN/FORREST operates on the right, driving forward with the ball to link the midfield and the attack. This trio works to compress the midfield and force a long ball from the opponent.

Celtic employs two forwards in a partnership to lead the line. HØGH acts as a pressing centre-forward to pin the last defender, while DURAN/OSMAND plays as a second striker in the hole. The attacking unit relies on the wing backs to overlap the winger and create overloads. When playing out from the back, the forwards look to receive on the half-turn to break the line with vertical passes. They often combine in tight spaces to create runs in behind.

One major advantage is the ability to press high in coordinated waves, using the front three to trigger a press. This setup provides numerical superiority in midfield when the wing backs tuck in. Celtic also benefits from the speed of transition, moving the ball quickly from the defensive block to the forwards. The formation allows for great compactness when defending deep.

This 5-3-2 formation is designed to suffocate opponents through aggressive pressing and rapid counter attacks. It is best suited for games against teams that play with a high line and can be exploited in behind.
