Starting Lineup

PSG relies on a defensive solidity and a quick transition game through a 5-4-1 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep and invite the opposition forward before hitting them on the break. The team aims to be hard to break down, using a low block to deny space between the lines and forcing opponents into wide areas.

Stephen stands between the posts to guard the goal. The defensive unit operates with a back five that holds a narrow defensive block to protect the central zone. Dominic, Samson, and Azeem form the central trio, with Dominic acting as the main man to win the header and Samson and Azeem providing cover. The wide defenders, Promise as the right wing back and Aaron as the left wing back, are tasked with stretching the pitch when the team wins the ball, but they must track back quickly to form a line of five.

The midfield operates as a flat four to maintain compactness and squeeze the space in the middle of the park. Afeez and Jadama form a central pairing that works to protect the back five and win the second ball. Jadama looks to carry the ball forward to link the lines, while Afeez stays closer to the defense to intercept passes. On the flanks, Michael and Eric act as wide midfielders who must defend deep to prevent being outnumbered but also look to provide width when the team moves into the attacking third.

PSG uses a lone striker in Peace to lead the line. Peace acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition back line and try to force a mistake. The attack relies on the wingers, Eric and Michael, to find space in transition and deliver crosses into the box. The goal is to use the width provided by Aaron and Promise to create situations where Peace can find space in the channels or run in behind the defenders.

One major advantage of this 5-4-1 formation is the ability to maintain compactness when defending, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. The team also benefits from the speed of transition once the midfield unit wins the ball back. By using the wing backs, PSG can create wide overloads to catch the opposition out of position during a break.
