The midfield is a massive engine that connects the defense to the attack. Gaaei and C. Henrique sit in a double pivot to shield the two defenders. C. Henrique and Gaaei work to protect the central zone and recycle possession to keep the pressure on. Brandt and Klaassen play as two attacking midfielders who move into the half-spaces to break the line. Gloukh plays as an attacking ten to find pockets of space behind the opponent midfield. This group must press in a mid-block or high to trigger a press.

In the final third, the team uses three attackers to stretch the defence. Godts and M. Leonardo act as wide wingers who stay high up the pitch. Godts likes to cut inside to find shooting lanes, while M. Leonardo looks to get to the byline and deliver early crosses. Arokodare plays as a lone striker and acts as a target man to hold up the ball and wait for support. The attack is built through the wingers or by finding Gloukh in the middle. The movements are designed to create runs in behind or to use Arokodare to win the second ball in the box.

A major advantage for Ajax is the numerical superiority in the midfield. With five players in the center, Brandt, Klaassen, and Gloukh can often outnumber the opposition and play through the lines easily. The team also uses wide overloads to create chances, using the wingers to pin the last defender. This allows the team to shift play quickly and find space in the half-spaces.
