Starting Lineup

Celtic focus on defensive solidity and quick transitions using a 5-3-2 formation. The lineup is built to absorb pressure and exploit space behind the opposition defense through direct vertical play. This setup allows the team to sit deep and remain compact before launching attacks in transition.

To provide width, Johnson acts as a right wing back to push high, and Tierney functions as an attacking left wing back to support the flank. The midfield employs a three-man midfield with a carrier to move the team forward. Nygren plays as the right central midfielder to help win the second ball, while Engels operates on the left side of the midfield. Yang plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers to connect the defensive and attacking lines. This midfield group works to press in a mid-block to force a long ball from the opponent. When defending, the midfield trio drops back to help the back three maintain a narrow defensive block.

Celtic utilizes two forwards in a partnership to lead the attack. Hogh plays as the left striker to lead the press from the front, while Duran operates as the right striker to find the feet of the striker or make runs in behind. The attacking unit looks to hit in behind on the transition once the ball is recovered. Tierney and Johnson provide width by overlapping the winger to deliver early crosses into the box. This creates combinations in tight spaces to split the defence with a through ball.

One major tactical advantage for Celtic is the ability to provide wide overloads from the attacking wing backs. Johnson and Tierney can push high to stretch the defence and isolate wide players in one on one situations. The team also benefits from a high degree of compactness when defending, making it hard for opponents to play through the lines. The presence of Yang in the hole allows the team to quickly progress through the thirds once the ball is won.
