Fenerbahçe Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Škriniar · NATHAN AKE · Oosterwolde · Semedo · Guendouzi · Asensio / Talisca · Kante / Fred · VEDAT / TRANSFER · Musaba · GREENWOOD · EdersonFenerbahçe focuses on high pressing and verticality through a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup aims to win it back high up the pitch and use extreme aggression to catch opponents out of position. The team looks to play through the lines quickly by using a massive presence in the middle of the pitch to overwhelm the opposition.
Ederson plays as the goalkeeper, acting as a sweeping presence behind a very high line. The defensive unit consists of a back two made up of Škriniar and Nathan Ake. Škriniar acts as a ball playing defender who can carry the ball forward, while Nathan Ake provides cover and is able to step up to intercept passes. Because there are only two defenders, they must hold a high line and defend zonally to squeeze the space in the middle of the pitch.
The midfield is a massive block consisting of five players to dominate the center. Guendouzi acts as the central engine to protect the back two, while Semedo and Oosterwolde operate in the half spaces to provide control. Kante or Fred play in the left half space to press aggressively and win the second ball. On the right side, Asensio or Talisca operate to create chances and connect the midfield to the attack. This midfield group works to compress the midfield and ensure the opposition cannot play through the center.
Fenerbahçe uses three attackers to pin the last defender and stretch the defence. Musaba and GREENWOOD act as wide wingers who hug the touchline to provide width, while Vedat or the transfer player acts as the central striker. The front three are designed to press from the front and force a long ball. This attacking unit looks to create runs in behind and isolation in one on one situations when the wingers get the ball in space.
One major advantage for Fenerbahçe is the numerical superiority in midfield which allows them to control the tempo and recycle possession easily. The team also benefits from the ability to press high in coordinated waves, making it difficult for opponents to build out from the back. This formation creates a heavy overload in the central areas that can overwhelm a standard three man midfield.
This 2-5-3 formation is built for total dominance and high intensity pressing. It is best suited for games where the team needs to break down a low block or overwhelm an opponent through sheer central pressure.
