The midfield core is very busy in this 2-5-3. Guendouzi sits in the middle to shield the defence and recycle possession. Semedo and Oosterwolde operate in the central roles to help drive forward with the ball and win the second ball. On the flanks, Kante or Fred acts as a left attacking midfielder to press aggressively and win it back high up the pitch. Asensio or Talisca plays on the right as an attacking midfielder to create through the lines. This midfield block aims to compress the midfield and dominate the center of the pitch.

Fenerbahçe uses three attackers to pin the last defender and stretch the defence. Musaba and Greenwood act as wide wingers who want to isolate a one on one wide or cut inside to attack the near post. Vedat or the transfer target plays as a pressing centre forward to lead the hunt from the front. The forwards work to trigger a press and make runs in behind to hit in behind on the transition. This front three can combine in tight spaces to split the defence with a through ball.
