The midfield operates as a three man midfield with a carrier. Xaver and Ryan work to control the middle, with Ryan looking to drive forward with the ball to break the line. Xaver sits deeper to protect the defenders and recycle possession. James plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, finding ways to play through the lines and connect the midfield to the front three. This trio works to compress the midfield when out of possession and win the second ball to start attacks.

Nottm Forest uses three attackers across the front to pin the last defender. Chris plays as a pressing centre-forward to force a long ball from the opposition. On the wings, Arnaud and Omari operate as wide wingers who hug the touchline to create maximum width. This allows Arnaud and Omari to isolate a one on one wide or cut inside to find space.
