Rangers aim to play with high intensity and directness using a 4-2-4. This formation is built to stretch the defence and pin the last defender with a heavy front line. By pushing many players into the attacking third, the lineup seeks to win the ball high up the pitch and hit in behind on the transition.

Pandur sits between the posts to command the area. The back line works as a flat back four with Rommens acting as a left back to provide width while Sterlingmccrorie holds the right side. In the middle, Fernandes and Godfreymakhanya operate as the central defenders. Fernandes focuses on playing out from the back and Fernandes and Godfreymakhanya must coordinate to set the offside trap. The defensive unit stays compact to avoid being split by long balls, requiring the defenders to communicate well to cover space when the midfield is bypassed.

The midfield works as a double pivot to provide a screen for the back four. Devlin or Raskin acts as the more defensive option to shield the centre-backs, while Dragojevic, Neil, or Chukuani looks to carry the ball forward and connect the lines. These two players must work hard to press in a mid-block and deny the turn to opposition playmakers. Because the midfield is outnumbered in this lineup, they must be disciplined to avoid being bypassed through the middle and must track back quickly to support the defence.

Rangers utilize four attackers to overwhelm the opposition. Driouech and Yokota play as wide wingers, with Driouech often looking to cut inside to create chaos. The central roles are occupied by either Aasgaard or Diomande and either Shankland or Chermiti, providing a mix of physical presence and runs in behind. This attacking unit is designed to press from the front, forcing the opposition to play long. The goal is to create chances through crosses from the wings or by finding the feet of the striker in tight spaces to create quick combinations.

One major advantage for Rangers is the ability to isolate wide players in one on one situations once the wingers get past the full backs. The heavy front four can also create numerical superiority in the attacking third, making it difficult for a back four to mark everyone. Additionally, the formation allows for a very fast transition when the double pivot wins the ball, allowing the four attackers to sprint forward immediately.

This 4-2-4 formation relies on high energy and quick verticality to catch opponents off guard. It is best suited for games where Rangers can exploit a high defensive line or face an opponent that struggles to defend transitions.
