Inter focuses on a high press and direct verticality through a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball high up the pitch and use the width provided by midfielders to stretch the opposition. The goal is to dominate the central zones and quickly transition from defense to attack to catch opponents off guard.

PROVEDEL starts between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back three consists of BASTONI, CHABOT (C), and BISSECK. BASTONI acts as a ball playing defender who can carry the ball forward, while CHABOT (C) provides leadership and dominance in the air. BISSECK covers the space behind the wide midfielders to maintain a compact shape. This defensive unit functions to defend zonally and can step up to squeeze the space when the team wins the ball.

A busy midfield engine drives the play through a five man unit. STANKOVIC sits in the middle to shield the defense and win the second ball. BARELLA operates in the right half space to drive forward with the ball and press aggressively, while ZIELINSKI occupies the left side to connect the defensive and attacking lines. DIMARCO plays as an attacking wing back on the left to provide width and whip it in towards the box, whereas BAKU operates on the right to help control the middle and support the transition.

The attacking front line uses two forwards in a partnership to pressure the opposition back line. LAUTARO and THURAM operate as a duo to hunt for runs in behind and combine in tight spaces. LAUTARO focuses on finding the feet of the striker and link-up play between the lines, while THURAM uses his physicality to hold up the ball and make runs into the box. This duo works to pin the last defender and create space for late runs from the midfield.

Inter offers significant tactical advantages through this specific formation. The presence of BARELLA and ZIELINSKI allows for numerical superiority in midfield during the build up. The team also creates wide overloads when DIMARCO overlaps the winger to deliver early crosses. This ability to shift between a narrow block and a wide attacking presence makes them very hard to mark.

The 3-5-2 formation relies on high intensity and quick transitions to break down opponents. Inter is best suited for games against teams that play a high defensive line or leave space behind their midfielders.
