Avaí looks to win the ball back high up the pitch and strike on the transition using a 5-3-2. This formation is built to play a direct game that relies on solid defensive blocks and quick breaks to catch opponents out. By sitting in a compact mid-block, Avaí can squeeze the space between the lines and prepare to hit in behind on the transition.

Nery starts the defensive work from the goal. The back line operates as a back five, with Elmer acting as the central anchor to command the area. Duglas and Nelson sit on either side of him as wide centre-backs to cover the channels and defend zonally. Ulices and Meme act as attacking wing backs, pushing high to provide width, while Elmer, Duglas, and Nelson hold the line to ensure the team remains difficult to break down.

The midfield functions as a three-man midfield with a carrier and a creative tip. Willians and Diego work in the central zones to shield the defence and win the second ball. Willians focuses on breaking the line with his movement, while Diego works to recycle possession and protect the space in front of the back five. Pepe plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, looking to receive on the half-turn and find passes into the forward line to link the midfield to the attack.

In the final third, the team utilizes two forwards in a partnership. Eduardo and Alexis operate as a front two, with Eduardo acting as a pressing centre-forward to trigger a press from the front. Alexis looks to make runs in behind the opposition defensive line to stretch the defence. The wing backs, Ulices and Meme, are expected to overlap the winger to create wide overloads, allowing Eduardo and Alexis to combine in tight spaces or receive crosses delivered from the byline.

Avaí gains a significant advantage through their ability to press in a mid-block and then immediately counter at pace. The width provided by Ulices and Meme forces the opposition to spread wide, which creates more space in the middle for Pepe to operate. Additionally, the defensive unit provides great compactness when defending deep, making it very hard for opponents to find gaps.

This formation creates a heavy defensive wall that is difficult to penetrate through central channels. It is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession, allowing Avaí to sit deep and exploit the space left by advancing full backs.
