Starting Lineup

This lineup focuses on a direct and vertical way of playing through a 4-4-2 formation. The team looks to win the ball and move forward quickly to catch the opposition before they can get organized. By using two banks of four, the team aims to stay compact while looking for moments to hit in behind.

Ndiaye stays between the posts to command the area. The defense operates with a flat back four, where Makana acts as a full back to provide width on the right side. Alozie plays as the left back, looking to overlap when the team has the ball. In the center, Atiq and Benzina work as the central defensive pairing, with Atiq focusing on winning headers and Benzina covering space behind the line. This unit works together to hold the line and push up to keep the team compact.

The midfield is built as a four man block to control the central areas. Sery and Ajibade act as the central midfielders, with Sery looking to win the second ball and Ajibade driving forward to carry the ball forward into the half spaces. They connect the defense to the attack by recycling possession and finding the wide players. On the flanks, Chawinga and Kusi occupy the wide positions, pressing aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch and providing service to the front two.

The attacking unit relies on two forwards working in a partnership. Ouedraogo plays as the lone striker who tries to pin the last defender, while Banda operates as the second striker in the hole to link up play between the lines. The team uses the width provided by Chawinga and Kusi to stretch the defence and create space for the strikers to run in behind. When the ball moves wide, the wingers look to get to the byline and cut it back for the late runners.

One major advantage for this team is the ability to press in a mid-block to force a long ball from the opponent. The two strikers can work together to press the opposition back line, creating turnover opportunities in dangerous areas. Another strength is the speed of transition when the central midfielders win the ball and immediately find the wide players to start a quick break.
