The midfield uses a double pivot with Frank sitting deep to shield the defence. He connects the back line to the rest of the team, allowing Ruud and Luis to act as the engine room. Ruud and Luis operate as two central midfielders who press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch. Zinedine plays as an attacking ten behind the two strikers, looking to find pockets of space between the lines and arrive late into the box to score.

In the final third, the team utilizes two forwards in a partnership. Gabriel acts as a pressing centre-forward to force a long ball from the opposition, while Diego works to find the feet of the striker and hold up the ball. The attack is built through quick combinations in the half spaces. The wide players often pull wide to stretch the defence, creating space for Zinedine to play through the lines with a through ball.

This 4-4-2 offers great compactness when defending in a mid-block. The presence of Zinedine and the two strikers allows for high pressure in waves to win it back high up the pitch. By having Frank sit deep, the team can also shift between a narrow defensive block and a more expansive attacking look very quickly.
