Starting Lineup

Focusing on a direct and vertical way of playing, this team uses a 4-4-2 formation. The lineup is built to hit opponents on the break and use power in the middle of the pitch. This 4-4-2 system relies on quick transitions to catch the opposition out of position.

Ditti stays between the posts to guard the goal. The defensive line consists of a flat back four that works to squeeze the space between the units. Tony acts as the right back to provide width, while Anthony M operates on the left. In the center, Stoner and Steve form the pairing to defend the box and win the second ball. Stoner and Steve must hold the line and communicate to set the offside trap when the team plays a high line.

The midfield operates with a central core designed to control the middle. Adam sits as the single pivot to shield the defense and pick up runners. Brandon and Javier play as the two central midfielders to drive forward with the ball and connect the lines. Nippun plays in the hole as an attacking ten behind the strikers to create chances. This midfield unit must press in a mid-block to force a long ball from the opponent.

The attack features two forwards working in a partnership. Mark and Luigi play as the two strikers to pin the last defender and push the opposition back line. Luigi can play as a target man to hold up the ball, while Mark looks to make runs in behind. They use the width provided by the wide players to spread the defense and create space in the middle. The forwards must press from the front to trigger a press when the opponent tries to play out from the back.

This formation offers several tactical advantages. The team can create numerical superiority in the middle when Nippun drops deeper to help the midfield. The combination of Mark and Luigi allows for quick combinations in tight spaces to break the line. Another strength is the ability to use the wide areas to whip it in or cut it back to the arriving midfielders.
