UNDAV guards the goal as the lone man in the defensive unit. The defensive line consists of a narrow two man pairing with KVARATSKHELIA and PALMER. KVARATSKHELIA acts as a ball playing defender to initiate play, while PALMER provides cover to sweep behind the high line. This extremely high line requires both defenders to step up quickly to set the offside trap. Because there are only two central defenders, they must be ready to defend man to man if the press is bypassed.

The midfield works in a flat four to control the center and provide wide support. CAICEDO and FEBAS form a central pairing where CAICEDO works to intercept passes and win the second ball, while FEBAS looks to connect the defensive and attacking lines. On the flanks, HAKIMI and CANCELO act as wide midfielders who spread wide to provide constant outlets. HAKIMI uses his pace to carry the ball forward, while CANCELO helps to recycle possession and shift the play from one side to the other.

The attacking unit is a heavy front four designed to pin the last defender. ARAÚJO and BASTONI operate as wide wingers, with ARAÚJO looking to cut inside into the half spaces and BASTONI pulling wide to deliver crosses. In the center, GARCÍA and the second GARCÍA function as a two man partnership. They act as pressing centre forwards to force a long ball from the opposition. This combination of players works to combine in tight spaces or hit in behind on the transition to exploit any gaps left by a retreating defense.

This formation offers immense speed of transition and the ability to create wide overloads through the movement of HAKIMI and CANCELO. By playing with four attackers and four midfielders, the team creates numerical superiority in the attacking third. This allows the team to press in coordinated waves, making it very difficult for opponents to play out from the back without making mistakes.
