The midfield operates as a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. Kimmich acts as the deep lying playmaker, looking to recycle possession and play through the lines to find the attackers. Bischof works alongside him to shield the defence and press aggressively to win the ball back. Together, Kimmich and Bischof connect the defensive and attacking lines, ensuring that the team can move from a defensive block into an attacking phase without leaving the centre too exposed.

The attacking front line is built around two forwards in a partnership. Kane acts as a target man who can hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates, while Musiala plays as a second striker in the hole to operate between the lines. On the flanks, Luis Diaz and Olise act as inverted wingers who cut inside to create central overloads. These players press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition, allowing the defenders to step up and win the header.

FC Bayern gains a massive advantage through their ability to create wide overloads when Davies and Luis Diaz push forward. The formation also allows for great speed of transition, as the four attackers can immediately hit in behind on the transition once the ball is won. This setup creates many one on one situations for the wingers and makes it very difficult for a mid block to track all the runners.
