Arsenal Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Saka · Havertz · Martinelli · Eze · Bruno G · Rice · Calafiori · Gabriel · Saliba · Timber · RayaArsenal focuses on high pressing and quick transitions through a 5-2-3. This formation is built to squeeze the pitch and win the ball back high up the pitch to catch opponents out of position. The Arsenal lineup relies on heavy intensity to disrupt the opposition build up play and turn defensive solidity into immediate attacking threats.
Raya operates between the posts to sweep behind the high line. The back five consists of Timber as the right wing back and Calafiori as the left wing back. Rice sits in the middle of the back three to act as a central defender who can step into midfield when needed. Saliba and Gabriel occupy the wide centre back roles, with Saliba using his recovery speed to cover space and Gabriel providing aerial strength. The defensive unit functions as a compact block that stays narrow to force play wide before pressing the ball.
The midfield utilizes a double pivot to control the center of the pitch. Bruno G works as one of the two central midfielders to shield the defense and win the second ball. Eze plays alongside him to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often carrying the ball forward to drive into the half spaces. These two players must work to compress the midfield and ensure they do not get bypassed by opposition central players.
Arsenal employs three attackers across the front to pin the last defender. Havertz acts as a lone striker, using his physicality to hold up the ball and link up play between the lines. Saka plays as an inverted winger on the right who loves to cut inside and find space in the box. Martinelli stays wide on the left to provide width and stretch the defense before looking to run in behind. The front three press from the front in pairs to force a long ball from the opposition.
This formation offers specific tactical advantages such as the ability to press high in coordinated waves. The presence of Timber and Calafiori allows for wide overloads from attacking wing backs when they overlap the wingers. Arsenal also gains numerical superiority in the defensive third, making them very difficult to break down through the middle.
This 5-2-3 formation is built for a high intensity game where the team can dominate through physical presence and pressing. It is best suited for facing teams that try to play out from the back and struggle under pressure.
