Ter Stegen acts as the lone man behind a very high line. The two central defenders, Baas and Sutalo, must play as ball playing defenders to help play out from the back. This defensive unit functions by squeezing the space and forcing a long ball from the opponent.

A massive five man midfield dominates the center of the pitch. C. Henrique and Gaaei operate as a double pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. Brandt and Klaassen act as inverted eights to connect the defensive and attacking lines, with Brandt often looking to play through the lines. Gloukh plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, tasked to find the feet of the striker or arrive late into the box to add a threat. This midfield block is designed to win the second ball and move the ball quickly through the thirds.

The attack uses three players across the front to stretch the defense. Godts plays as a wide winger on the left while M. Leonardo operates as an inverted winger on the right to cut inside. Arokodare serves as the pressing centre forward, working to pin the last defender and hold up the ball for others. The formation creates constant pressure through overlaps and runs in behind, often aiming to isolate wide players in one on one situations.

Ajax gains a significant tactical advantage through numerical superiority in midfield. This setup allows the team to compress the midfield and prevent the opponent from building play through the center. The heavy presence of Gloukh and the two central midfielders makes it difficult for teams to find passing lanes.
