Starting Lineup

SK Rapid focuses on a heavy high press and aggressive verticality using a 2-5-3 formation. This lineup is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and immediately look to hit the opposition in behind. By pushing the numbers forward, the team seeks to dominate the middle of the park and squeeze the space available to the opponent.

Hedl acts as the last line of defense behind a very high defensive line. Raux Yao and Schöller operate as a central pair of defenders who must be ready to sweep behind the high line or step up to intercept long balls. Because there are only two central defenders, they must remain compact to prevent being split by through balls. The unit relies on quick recovery runs to cover the vast space behind them when the press is bypassed.

The midfield is the engine room for SK Rapid, utilizing a five man block to control the center. Horn and Bolla operate as a double pivot to shield the two defenders and recycle possession when needed. Seidl and Amane occupy the half spaces as inverted eights, looking to drive forward with the ball or arrive late into the box. Gulliksen plays as an attacking ten behind the striker, acting as the primary creative link to play through the lines and find the forwards.

The attacking front line uses three players to stretch the defense. Adamsen works as a pressing centre forward to pin the last defender and lead the hunt from the front. Wurmbrand stays wide on the left to provide width, while Y. Demir operates as an inverted winger on the right to cut inside and create goal scoring chances. This setup allows the team to attack in combinations, using the movement of the wide players to create space for Gulliksen and Adamsen to work in the central areas.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages through its ability to press high in coordinated waves. The presence of five midfielders creates numerical superiority in the center, allowing the team to win the second ball frequently. Furthermore, the aggressive positioning of the wide attackers and midfielders forces the opposition to stay deep, which allows SK Rapid to control the tempo of the game through central dominance.
