The midfield consists of a double pivot with Joelinton and Steur working to control the center. Joelinton is a physical presence who uses his strength to win the second ball and drive forward with the ball into the middle third. Steur works to connect the defensive and attacking lines by recycling possession and shielding the defense when the full backs push high. This pair must be disciplined to prevent being bypassed by opposition central midfielders.

Newcastle utilize four attackers to pin the last defender and create constant threats. Toure and Elanga act as wide wingers who stay wide to stretch the defense, with Toure looking to cut inside to create goalscoring chances. J. Ramsey and Wissa operate as two forwards in a partnership, using their movement to make runs in behind or link up play between the lines. This attacking group is designed to press from the front and force the opposition to play long balls.

One major tactical advantage is the ability to create wide overloads when Hall and Shahar push forward to join the wingers. The team also benefits from a high level of compactness when they win the ball back high up the pitch, allowing them to hit in behind on the transition.
