Sparrow plays as a right back to provide stability while Longelo acts as an attacking full back on the left to push forward. In the centre, Knight-Lebel and Moormann work as a pair to defend zonally and win the second ball. They must be ready to step up to set the offside trap or drop into a low block if the pressure becomes too high.

The midfield relies on a double pivot to control the centre. Priestman and Fadinger form this central pairing to shield the defence and win possession. Fadinger works to connect the defensive and attacking lines by recycling possession, while Priestman drives forward with the ball to support the transition. They must stay compact to deny the turn to opposition playmakers and ensure the team does not get caught out on the break.

The attacking unit is designed to overwhelm the opposition with a heavy front four. Maswanhise and Lowry operate as a partnership in the middle, with Lowry acting as a target man to hold up the ball for others. Said and Vogt operate as wide wingers on the flanks. Said looks to cut inside to create central presence, while Vogt aims to get to the byline to deliver early crosses. This front line is expected to press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.

Motherwell can create significant advantages through their high volume of attackers. The presence of four forwards allows for quick transitions and the ability to hit in behind on the transition. The team also creates wide overloads when Longelo and Sparrow push up to support the wingers. This heavy involvement in the final third makes the lineup very difficult to defend in one on one situations.
