Starting Lineup

The team operates with a high press and a heavy emphasis on attacking width through a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to dominate territory and pin the opposition back using high intensity movements. By pushing up the pitch, the team seeks to win the ball back high up the pitch to create immediate scoring chances.

M begins the defensive actions from the goal, acting as the primary line of protection. The back line consists of a back three, where M.M.S.C plays as the central defender to command the area. To his left and right, M.M.S.C occupies the left and right wide centre-back roles. These wide centre-backs are tasked to step up into midfield or cover wide areas when the wingers push high. The unit functions to hold the line and defend zonally, ensuring they maintain compactness when the opposition attempts to play through the thirds.

The midfield acts as a wide four, functioning to control the center and the flanks. M.M.S.C and M.M.S.C operate as the two central midfielders who connect the defensive and attacking lines. One of these players is expected to shield the defence while the other looks to carry the ball forward into the half spaces. On the edges, M.M.S.C and M.M.S.C act as wide midfielders who provide the necessary width to stretch the defence. They are required to track back to support the back three but also to overlap the wingers when the team is in possession.

In the final third, the team utilizes three attackers across the front to overwhelm the opponent. M.M.S.C and M.M.S.C function as inverted wingers who cut inside to create space for the wide midfielders. M.M.S.C occupies the role of a pressing centre-forward, leading the line by trying to force a long ball from the opposition. This front three is designed to work in combinations, using quick passes to split the defence with a through ball or looking to hit in behind on the transition.

This formation offers significant tactical advantages, specifically the ability to create wide overloads from the combination of the wide midfielders and the wingers. By using three central midfielders in a compact block when defending, the team can compress the midfield and deny the turn to opposition playmakers. The ability to press in coordinated waves makes this lineup very difficult to play out from the back.
