In front of the goal, Josep acts as the last line of defense. The back line operates as a back three, with Akanji sitting central to anchor the unit. He is joined by Bastoni on the left and Bisseck on the right. Bastoni acts as a ball playing defender who can step up into midfield to progress play, while Bisseck provides cover and uses his physical presence to win headers. This defensive unit stays compact to deny passing lanes and can shift laterally to cover the wide areas when the wing backs push high.

The midfield functions as a narrow unit designed to control the center. Barella plays as a high energy driver who connects the defense and attack, often making late runs into the box. Beside him, A.Stankovic works to press aggressively and win the second ball in the middle third. The wide midfielders, Spence and Dimarco, act as wing backs to provide width. Dimarco is tasked to overlap the winger and deliver crosses, while Spence provides energy on the opposite flank to help defend the wide areas and transition into attack.
