VEDAT (LUKAKU) · *BERKE* (MERT) · *EL HILALI* (MULDUR) · *OSO/FORTINI* (*EKOMIE*) · SKRINIAR (*ADIL*) · AKE (*UMIT*) · KANTE (*ANDRE*) · GUENDOUZZI (ISMAIL) · ASENSIO (TALISCA) · GREENWOOD (IRFAN) · KEREM (*ELIF*)Fenerbahçe focuses on a heavy defensive presence and quick transitions when playing a 5-4-1. This formation is built to stay compact and deny space to the opposition while waiting for opportunities to strike on the break. The lineup aims to frustrate opponents by sitting in a low block and using the width of the pitch to clog central passing lanes.
Vedat stays between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line functions as a back five with Kerem acting as a right wing back and Greenwood serving as the left wing back to provide width. In the middle, Asensio, Kante, and Guendouzzi form a central trio where Kante and Guendouzzi act as covering defenders to sweep behind a high line while Asensio holds the line. The unit moves together to keep the distance between the lines small.
The midfield works as a flat four to block the center of the pitch. Skrinar and Ake operate as a central pairing where Skrinar looks to intercept play and Ake works to connect the defensive and attacking lines. El Hilali plays as the right midfielder to provide width, while Oso/Fortini operates on the left to help the team press in a mid-block. This group is tasked to win the second ball and immediately look to progress through the thirds.
Fenerbahçe relies on a lone striker, Berke, to lead the line. Berke acts as a target man to hold up the ball and wait for support from the wide players. When the team wins possession, Greenword and Kerem push forward to offer overlaps, allowing the wingers to cut inside and create numbers in the final third. The attackers must press from the front to force a long ball and prevent the opposition from playing out from the back.
One major advantage for Fenerbahçe is the compactness when defending, which makes it very hard for opponents to find gaps between the five defenders and the four midfielders. The formation also offers speed of transition because the wide players are ready to spring forward as soon as the ball is recovered. This allows the team to exploit the space left behind by attacking opponents.
This formation provides a solid defensive base that prioritizes stability over possession. It is best suited for games against high possession teams where Fenerbahçe needs to sit deep and hit on the counter at pace.
