Boca focuses on a heavy defensive presence and rapid transitions using a 5-2-3. This formation is built to sit in a mid-block and wait for the opposition to commit before hitting them with speed. The lineup allows the team to stay compact when out of possession while providing enough numbers upfront to pin the opposition back during a break.

Oliveros acts as the last line of defense in goal. The defensive unit functions as a back five that can shift effectively. Ruffini holds the center as the primary ball playing defender to help play out from the back. Baccaro and Bralo operate as the two wider center backs to provide cover and win the header when the ball is played long. On the flanks, Cruz and Ramirez act as attacking wing backs. They are tasked to push high and provide width, while they must track back quickly to defend the wide areas.

A double pivot controls the center of the pitch for Boca. Sasaki and Ramirez form the two central midfielders who are responsible for shielding the back five. Sasaki works to win the second ball and carries the ball forward to bridge the gap between the lines. Ramirez focuses on recycling possession and cutting off the passing lane to the opposition attackers. This midfield pairing must stay disciplined to avoid leaving the center backs exposed during transitions.

The attacking front line uses three attackers to stretch the defence. Arias and Troncoso operate as wide wingers who stay high and look to isolate defenders in one on one situations. Arias tends to cut inside to find space, while Troncoso looks to get to the byline and deliver crosses. Lema plays as a lone striker and acts as a target man to hold up the ball and wait for support. The front three are expected to press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition.

Boca benefits from significant numerical superiority in the defensive third which makes them very hard to break down through the middle. The ability to use Cruz and Ramirez to create wide overloads allows the team to switch play effectively. When the team wins the ball high up the pitch, they can quickly hit in behind on the transition using the pace of the wide players.

This formation provides a very solid base for a team that wants to absorb pressure and strike on the break. It is best suited for matches against dominant teams where the goal is to deny space in the central areas.
