Jan Oblak stays between the posts to provide a reliable last line of defense. The back line functions as a back three, with Hancko acting as the left centre-back and Pubill as the right centre-back to maintain a narrow defensive block. Romero sits in the middle to organize the unit and win headers during defensive transitions. These defenders work to hold the line and ensure the team stays compact when the opponent tries to play through the lines.

The midfield operates as a central pairing alongside two wide players to control the middle of the pitch.
