Starting Lineup

Deportivo focuses on a heavy defensive presence and rapid transitions using a 5-3-2. This formation aims to be defensively solid and rely on the speed of the forwards to punish teams when the ball is won. The lineup is built to sit deep and wait for the right moment to hit in behind.

Leo sits between the posts to command the area. The defensive unit uses a back three consisting of Noubi, Loureiro, and Ede to maintain a narrow defensive block. Noubi acts as the central anchor while Loureiro and Ede provide coverage on either side. Ximo operates as an attacking wing back on the right to provide width, while Quagliata plays as the left wing back to overlap when needed. The back five works to squeeze the space between the lines and protect the central zone.

In the middle of the pitch, Deportivo uses a three-man midfield with a single pivot. Amatucci acts as the anchor to shield the defence and win the second ball. Mario and Teun operate as the two central midfielders, tasked to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Teun and Mario are expected to carry the ball forward and help recycle possession to keep the team stable. This group works to press in a mid-block to force a long ball from the opposition.

The attacking front line features a partnership of two forwards. Aubameyang plays as a left striker, using his well documented pace and clinical finishing to exploit space. Bil operates as the right striker to provide a presence up front. These two forwards press from the front to disrupt the opposition build up. The movement of Ximo and Quagliata creates width, allowing Aubameyang and Bil to find pockets of space or receive layoffs in transition.

A primary advantage of this formation is the compactness when defending. By using a back three and a dedicated pivot in Amatucci, the team makes it very hard to play through the middle. Another strength is the ability to create wide overloads when Ximo and Quagliata push high. This allows the team to switch play quickly and isolate attackers in one on one situations.

Deportivo relies on a disciplined defensive block and quick verticality to win games. This formation is best suited for facing teams that dominate possession and leave space behind their high line.
