Starting Lineup

Focusing on extreme central congestion and controlling the middle of the pitch, this team operates in a 2-6-2 formation. The lineup is built to dominate the ball and squeeze the space in the center, forcing the opposition to play wide. This formation is designed for teams that want to overwhelm the opponent with numbers in the midfield to control the tempo of the game.

The GK stays between the posts to manage the defense. Because there are only two central defenders, DEF and DEF, they must maintain a very high line to keep the team compact. These two defenders must be strong in the air and quick to cover ground when the opposition looks to hit in behind. They have very little protection from a traditional back four, so they must defend zonally and stay coordinated to prevent being split by through balls.

The midfield is the heart of this system, acting as a massive block of six players. A single pivot, ATT, sits just in front of the two defenders to shield the line and win the second ball. Ahead of him, the wide players MID (LM) and MID (RM) provide width and can track back to help the defense. In the center, the three-man midfield featuring MID (LCM), MID (RCM), and the attacking midfielder ATT works to win the ball high up the pitch and progress through the thirds. This group aims to compress the midfield and ensure the opposition cannot play through the center.

The attack uses two forwards, DEF (LS) and DEF (RS), to pin the last defender of the opposition. These two players work as a partnership, often looking to link up with the attacking midfielder ATT who plays as a second striker in the hole. The forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opponent. When the team wins the ball, they look to spread wide to the midfielders or play short from the back to move through the lines. The movement is designed to create quick combinations in tight spaces to break the defensive line.

One major advantage of this formation is the heavy numerical superiority in midfield, which makes it very difficult for opponents to keep possession. The sheer number of players in the center allows for intense pressing in pairs to win it back high up the pitch. Another strength is the ability to control the rhythm of the game by recycling possession through the dense central block.

This lineup focuses on total central dominance and high-pressure football. It is best suited for games against teams that lack the quality to bypass a crowded midfield through direct play.
