Racing Club Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Cambeses · Cannavo · Fernández · Martínez · Rojo · Pérez · Miljevic · Tello · Ortegoza · Maravilla · ConechnyRacing Club relies on a direct and aggressive style of play using a 5-3-2 formation. This lineup is built to sit deep when defending and hit teams on the transition with speed. The goal is to compress the space between the lines and use the width provided by the wing backs to stretch the opposition.
Cambeses stays between the posts to organize the defense from the back. The back line functions as a narrow defensive block with a trio of central defenders. Pérez holds the line in the middle while Rojo covers the space to the left. Martínez acts as the right sided center back to provide stability. Cannavo and Fernández act as attacking wing backs, pushing high to provide width and overlap the midfielders during the build up.
The midfield operates as a three man midfield with a carrier in the middle. Miljevic sits in the center to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often dropping deep to receive from the defenders. Ortegoza and Tello operate in the half spaces to press aggressively and win the ball back high up the pitch. This trio works to squeeze the space in the middle of the park to ensure Racing Club maintains a compact shape when the opponent has possession.
The attack features two forwards in a partnership working closely together. Maravilla plays as the striker to hold up the ball and fight for aerial duels. Conechny plays as the second striker in the hole to find space between the lines and make runs in behind the defense. When the team wins the ball, the wing backs Cannavo and Fernández charge forward to create overloads on the flanks, allowing Maravilla and Conechny to focus on attacking the box or playing one twos.
Racing Club finds success through the speed of transition and the ability to create wide overloads. The wing backs provide constant width which pulls the opposition defenders out of position. This allows the two strikers to isolate the center backs in one on one situations. The coordination between the three central midfielders and the back five makes it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle.
This formation is built for a team that wants to defend in a compact block and strike with pace. It is best suited for games against teams that dominate possession but leave space behind their high defensive line.
