The midfield relies on a double pivot to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Barella acts as the engine, driving forward with the ball and pressing aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch. Zielinski sits alongside him to recycle possession and find the feet of the striker. This pair must work hard to cover the gaps left by the advancing full backs and ensure the team does not get bypassed in the transition.
