LEO (ROMÁN) · ADRIÀ (ALTIMIRA) · LUCAS (NOUBI) · ARNAU (COMAS) · ANGELIÑO · LORENZO (AMATUCCI) · JOSÉ ÁNGEL (JURADO) · MARIO (SORIANO) · YEREMAY (HERNÁNDEZ) · JONATHAN (ASP JENSEN) · PIERRE-EMERICK (AUBAMEYANG)Deportivo seeks to control games through high pressing and quick verticality in a 4-3-3. This formation is built to win the ball back high up the pitch and immediately attack the space behind the opposition defense. The team wants to use width to stretch the defense before playing through the lines to the forwards.
Leo acts as the last line of defense in goal. The defensive unit sits in a high line with a flat back four. Adrià operates as a right back who stays relatively deep to maintain the line, while Angeliño acts as an attacking full back to provide width. In the center, Lucas and Arnau form the core of the defense. Lucas is dominant in the air to clear long balls, and Arnau acts as a ball playing defender to start attacks. The unit works to squeeze the space between the defense and midfield to prevent opponents from playing through them.
The midfield relies on a three man midfield with a carrier and a creative hub. Lorenzo plays as the left central midfielder to shield the defense and win the second ball. José Ángel operates as the right central midfielder to drive forward with the ball and connect the defensive and attacking lines. Mario plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find pockets of space. Mario works to find the feet of the striker or play a one-two to break the line. This group links the back four to the front three by recycling possession or playing direct passes.
Deportivo utilizes three attackers across the front. Pierre-Emeryck acts as a pressing centre-forward who holds up the ball and pins the last defender. On the flanks, Jonathan plays as an inverted winger on the left to cut inside, while Yeremay operates on the right to stay wide and whip it in. These attackers press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. The combination of Pierre-Emeryck and the wide players creates runs in behind and allows for cutbacks from the byline when the full backs overlap.
This lineup offers several tactical advantages. The team can create wide overloads when Angeliño and Jonathan occupy the same flank. There is also a significant ability to press high in coordinated waves because of the positioning of Mario and the front three. This allows Deportivo to win it back high up the pitch and exploit disorganized defenses.
Deportivo uses this 4-3-3 to dominate possession and punish teams that play a high defensive line. This formation is best suited for matches against opponents who struggle to defend against quick transitions and wide attacks.
