Al-Dawsari) · Milinkovic-Savic (Kanno) · TBD (Dahal) · Meite (Nunez) · Benzema (TBD)Al-Hilal seeks to dominate games through high pressing and verticality in a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup focuses on controlling the center of the pitch while using wide players to stretch the opposition. The team looks to win the ball high up the pitch and progress through the thirds quickly to catch opponents before they can settle.
Bounou operates between the posts to anchor the defense. A back three provides a solid base with Koulibaly acting as a dominant force in the air and a leader in the central role. Hernandez and Akçiçek defend the side channels, with Hernandez providing cover and Akçiçek looking to step up when the ball is on the opposite side. The defensive unit holds a high line to squeeze the space and force a long ball from the opposition.
The midfield functions as a three man midfield with a carrier and two creators. Neves sits in the pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession, using his passing range to find teammates. Bouabré and Milinkovic-Savic work in the half spaces, with Milinkovic-Savic known for his ability to arrive late into the box and his physical presence. These players connect the defensive line to the attack by playing through the lines and winning the second ball. On the flanks, Summerville and TBD provide the width necessary to spread the defense.
The attack features two forwards working in a partnership. Meite plays as a pressing centre forward to disrupt the opposition build up, while Benzema operates as a striker who can drop into midfield to link up play. This movement creates space for Milinkovic-Savic to run into. The team uses the wide areas to deliver crosses or cut it back to the edge of the area. When the team transitions, the forwards push high to pin the last defender and create runs in behind.
Al-Hilal gains a significant advantage through numerical superiority in midfield, making it difficult for opponents to play through the center. The wingers and wide midfielders also create wide overloads to isolate defenders in one on one situations. The ability to press in coordinated waves allows the team to win it back high up the pitch and attack quickly.
This formation relies on a heavy press and rapid ball movement to overwhelm the opposition. It is best suited for games against teams that try to play out from the back and leave space behind their midfield.
