Starting Lineup

JERE (1) · SANTI (4) · CARITA (2) · SANTI (6) · ENZO (3) · NAZA (5) · PEPE (8) · CAFE (11) · JOSE (C) (10) · MAURI (7) · NENU (9)

This lineup focuses on being defensively solid while using rapid transitions to catch opponents off guard in a 5-3-2 formation. The goal is to sit deep, squeeze the space in the middle, and use the width provided by the wing backs to stretch the opposition when the ball is won.

Jere guards the goal as the last line of defense. The back line operates as a narrow defensive block with Naza acting as the central anchor to hold the line. Santi and Carita serve as the wide centre backs, with Santi tasked to cover the left channel and Carita monitoring the right. To provide width, Enzo and Santi act as attacking wing backs, pushing high up the pitch to support the play once the team wins the ball.

The midfield functions as a three man midfield with a carrier. Pepe and Cafe work to protect the central area, with Pepe tasked to shield the defense while Cafe looks to carry the ball forward into the half spaces. Jose, the captain, plays as an attacking ten behind the strikers to connect the lines. Jose works to receive on the half-turn and find the feet of the forwards, or he can drive forward to join the attack.

The attack relies on two forwards working in a partnership. Nenu plays as the lone striker who often holds up the ball to allow others to join, while Mauri plays as a second striker to make runs in behind the defensive line. They press from the front to force a long ball from the opposition. When the team moves into transition, Enzo and Santi aim to get to the byline to whip it in for the two forwards to attack the near post or far post.

This formation offers significant advantages through its compactness when defending and the ability to create wide overloads. When Enzo and Santi push up, they create extra passing lanes that force the opposition to pull defenders out of position. This creates space for Jose to operate between the lines and allows the team to hit in behind on the transition.

This 5-3-2 formation is built to absorb pressure and strike with speed. It is best suited for matches against teams that dominate possession and leave space behind their high defensive line.
