Barovero stays between the posts to organize the back five. The defensive unit functions as a zonal line with Maidana playing as a right centre back. Beside him, Eder Balanta acts as the left centre back, while Leo Ponzio or Kranevitter sits as the central defender to hold the line. To provide width, Vangioni or Casco acts as an attacking wing back on the left, while Mercado or Mayada performs the same role on the right. This lineup is designed to be hard to break down by maintaining a narrow defensive block.

The midfield functions as a four man unit that sits just ahead of the defence. Lucho Gonzalez operates as a single pivot to shield the defence and recycle possession. Carlos Sanchez or Viudez plays on the right side of this block, while Pity Martinez works on the left to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Pisculichi plays as an attacking ten in the hole to support the forward. This midfield group works to compress the space and press the opposition in a mid block to force a long ball.

In the final third, the attack relies on a lone striker. Cavenaghi, Scocco, or Mora acts as the target man to hold up the ball and win the second ball. The team uses inverted wingers and wide players to spread wide and stretch the defence. When River wins the ball, the wing backs push forward to provide width, allowing Pisculichi to find the feet of the striker or play through the lines. The forwards press from the front to trigger a press and force errors in the opponent's buildup.
