Rushworth operates as the goalkeeper, acting as the first point of distribution. The defensive line sits in a flat back four with Thomas as the right centre-back and Amenda as the left centre-back. Thomas provides strength in the air and Amenda covers the space behind when the line steps up. On the flanks, van Ewijk plays as an attacking full back to provide width, while DaSilva stays more disciplined to ensure the team does not get caught on the break. The back four must hold a high line to keep the team compact.

The midfield relies on a double pivot consisting of Grimes and Yirenkyi. Grimes works to shield the defence and win the second ball, while Yirenkyi looks to carry the ball forward to connect the defensive unit with the attackers. This pairing must be extremely disciplined to prevent the opposition from playing through the middle. They are tasked with recycling possession and quickly finding the wide players or the two strikers to initiate an attack.

Coventry employs two forwards in a partnership with Onyeka and Simms leading the line. Onyeka acts as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition centre-backs, while Simms looks to play off him and make runs in behind. The width is provided by Asante on the left wing and Tchaouna on the right wing. Asante and Tchaouna are expected to hug the touchline to spread the defence, creating gaps in the middle for the strikers to exploit. This front line is designed to attack in combinations and hit the opposition on the transition.

This formation offers significant advantages in terms of speed of transition and verticality. By committing four players to the attacking phase, Coventry can overwhelm a retreating defence. The ability to isolate wide players in one on one situations is a key part of the plan, as Asante and Tchaouna can take on full backs directly.
