Le Mans Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Test (Test) · GK · LCB · RCB · LWB · RWB · CM · CM · AM · CF · CFLe Mans focuses on a vertical style of play that looks to control the central areas of the pitch using a 3-5-2 formation. This lineup is built to dominate the middle of the park and use the width provided by wing backs to stretch the opposition. By packing the midfield, Le Mans can look to win the ball back high up the pitch and move quickly toward the goal.
The defensive unit begins with the goalkeeper, who serves as the last line of defense. A back three consists of Test in the center, flanked by the LCB and the RCB. Test acts as the primary ball playing defender to help start attacks. The LCB and RCB focus on defending zonally and covering the space behind the wing backs when they push forward. This back three provides a solid base that can shift into a back five when the team sits deep to defend a lead.
In the middle of the pitch, the midfield operates with a three man midfield with a carrier and an attacking ten. The two central midfielders, LCM and RCM, sit in the middle to protect the defense and recycle possession. They work to win the second ball and connect the defensive line to the attackers. The AM plays as an advanced midfielder behind the strikers to find pockets of space. On the flanks, the LDM and RDM act as attacking wing backs, providing constant width and running to the byline to deliver crosses.
The attack features two forwards working in a partnership as CF and CF. These two strikers work to pull defenders out of position and create room for the AM to arrive late into the box. One CF can act as a target man to hold up the ball, while the other looks to make runs in behind the opposition defense. When the team loses the ball, the two forwards press from the front to force a long ball from the opponent. This setup creates many chances through quick combinations and movement between the lines.
One major advantage for Le Mans is the numerical superiority in midfield which allows them to control the tempo of the game. The LDM and RDM provide wide overloads from overlapping full backs, making it difficult for opponents to defend the flanks. This formation also offers great compactness when defending, as the narrow midfield block makes it hard for teams to play through the center.
This 3-5-2 formation provides a balanced way to control the game through central dominance and wide attacking runs. It is best suited for games against teams that play with a single pivot or those that struggle to track runners from deep.
