Ahead of them, the attacking creativity comes from M. Platini and D. Maradona. Both players act as two tens in the half spaces, looking to receive on the half-turn and find the feet of the striker. Maradona uses his dribbling to beat men in tight spaces, while Platini uses his passing range to split the defence with a through ball.

The attack relies on a lone striker, M. van Basten, who acts as a complete forward.
