Piast Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Grill,Plach (Dudziński,Grelich) · Twumasi (Borowski) · Juande (Czerwiński) · Lewicki · Leśniak (Maziarz) · Łobojko (Boisgard) · Lima (Lokilo,Souare) · Drachal (Felix) · Vallejo (Sanca) · Fikaj (Czerwiński) · Ntamack (Katsatonis,Kucharski)Piast relies on a compact, counter attacking identity built around a 5-4-1 formation. The team focuses on sitting deep to deny space between the lines and waits for the right moment to hit in behind on the transition. This formation is designed to absorb pressure and frustrate the opposition by maintaining a very narrow defensive block.
Ntamack stays between the posts to organize the back five. The defensive unit utilizes a back three consisting of Drachal, Leśniak, and Łobojko. Drachal acts as the central figure to sweep behind the line while Leśniak and Łobojko defend zonally to protect the middle. Lima and Vallejo operate as attacking wing backs, tasked with providing width when the team wins the ball and tracking back to form a five man line when defending. The unit works to stay tight and force the opponent to play wide.
The midfield works as a flat four to control the central areas. Juande and Fikaj act as the central pairing, with Juande working to shield the defence and Fikaj looking to progress through the thirds. Twumasi and Lewicki occupy the wide areas to protect the flanks and press in a mid-block. This group is responsible for recycling possession and ensuring the team stays compact when the opposition tries to play through the lines. They aim to win the second ball to start quick breaks.
Piast uses two forwards in a partnership to lead the line. Grill and Plach operate as a duo, with one often acting to hold up the ball while the other looks to make runs in behind. They press from the front to trigger a press and force a long ball from the opposition. When the ball is won, the wing backs Lima and Vallejo push high to support the two strikers, aiming to create overloads or deliver early crosses into the box. The attack relies on quick combinations to bypass the midfield.
A major strength for Piast is the ability to hold a compact shape that makes it very hard for opponents to find gaps. The formation offers great protection against teams that rely on central play. By using Lima and Vallejo to stretch the defence, the team can also create quick transition opportunities that isolate defenders in one on one situations.
This 5-4-1 formation is built to be defensively solid and effective on the break. It is best suited for games against possession heavy sides where Piast can sit deep and strike with pace.
