Celtic Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Høgh · Duran · Hassan · Jota · Baur · Gbane · Ccv · Sinisalo · Tierney · Trusty · AJ style playerCeltic focuses on a heavy verticality to catch opponents off guard through a 4-2-4. This formation is built to press from the front and hit in behind on the transition with direct movements toward the goal. By using four attackers, the team looks to stretch the defence and create constant chaos in the final third.
Sinisalo acts as the last line of defense behind a flat back four. Tierney plays as an attacking left back to provide width, while AJ style player operates on the right to support the wide areas. In the center, Trusty and Ccv form the defensive core, with Trusty acting as a ball playing defender to start attacks. The back line aims to hold a high line to squeeze the space and keep the team compact when they lose the ball.
The midfield relies on a double pivot to manage the center of the pitch. Gbane and Baur work together to shield the defence and win the second ball in the middle third. Baur connects the defensive and attacking lines by recycling possession, while Gbane acts as a carrier to drive forward with the ball. This pair must remain disciplined to cover the gaps left by the advancing full backs and prevent the opposition from playing through the lines.
Celtic utilizes two forwards in a partnership up front, with Duran and Høgh acting as the central presence. Jota plays as an inverted winger on the left, frequently cutting inside to find space between the lines, while Hassan stays wide on the right to stretch the defence. This front line is designed to press from the front, forcing long balls from the opposition. The attackers combine in tight spaces to create runs in behind or provide cutbacks from the byline.
One major tactical advantage for Celtic is the ability to create wide overloads when the full backs push up to join the wingers. The team also benefits from high pressing in coordinated waves, which can win it back high up the pitch. This setup allows the side to isolate wide players in one on one situations, making it difficult for a narrow defensive block to cope.
This 4-2-4 lineup is designed for high intensity and rapid attacking transitions. It is best suited for games against teams that play a high defensive line or struggle to manage wide numbers.
