The midfield is a dense bank of five players that controls the center of the pitch. Gaaei and C. Henrique form a double pivot to shield the defense and recycle possession. Brandt and Klaassen operate in the half spaces to connect the defensive and attacking lines. Gloukh plays as an attacking ten behind the striker to find pockets of space. This group works to win the second ball and press aggressively to prevent the opponent from playing out from the back.

Ajax uses three attackers across the front to stretch the defense. M. Leonardo stays wide on the left as an inverted winger to cut inside and create chances. Tsygankov stays wide on the right to deliver crosses or drive toward the box. Arokodare acts as a pressing centre-forward to pin the last defender and hold up the ball. The front three work in combinations to create runs in behind and isolate wide players in one on one situations.

This formation offers significant numerical superiority in midfield to dominate the center. The high line and the aggressive midfield unit allow Ajax to press in coordinated waves. By using the five midfielders, the team can quickly shift play and create wide overloads when the wingers move inside.
