Nottm Forest Football Formation
Starting Lineup
Aina · Wharton · Sangaré · Williams · Delap · Diomande · Murillo · Sels · Milenković · Gibbs-White · Hudson-OdoiNottm Forest relies on a heavy press and rapid transitions to catch opponents off guard, operating primarily from a 3-4-3 formation. This lineup is built to control the middle of the pitch while using wide players to stretch the opposition. The goal is to win the ball high up the pitch and immediately look to exploit the spaces left behind a high defensive line.
Sels plays between the posts to organize the defensive unit. The back line consists of a back three where Murillo operates as the left centre-back with his ability to carry the ball forward. Milenković provides aerial strength as the right centre-back, while Diomande covers the central space. This trio works to hold a high line and squeeze the space in the middle, forcing the opposition to play wide where they can be trapped against the touchline.
The midfield works as a central block with Sangaré acting as the single pivot to shield the defence. Wharton sits alongside him to connect the defensive and attacking lines, often looking to find the feet of the forwards or break the line with a vertical pass. On the flanks, Aina and Williams act as wide midfielders who provide the width for the team. Aina can push up to support the attack, while Williams tracks back to help the defenders when the team is out of possession.
Up front, the team uses three attackers to pin the last defender. Delap works as a pressing centre-forward to harass the opposition centre-backs, while Gibbs-White operates from the right wing to cut inside and create chances. Hudson-Odoi stays wide on the left to stretch the defence and look for opportunities to take on his man. These three forwards work in combination to create runs in behind or to receive the ball in tight spaces to launch quick attacks.
Nottm Forest possesses a significant advantage through their ability to press in coordinated waves with the front three and the midfield. The wide players, Aina and Williams, create wide overloads when they overlap the wingers, forcing the opposition to shift constantly. This formation also allows the team to transition from a mid-block to a direct attack with great speed once the ball is recovered.
This 3-4-3 formation is designed for a high intensity game where winning the ball back quickly is the priority. It is most effective against teams that play a high line and can be caught on the break.
