Talleres Football Formation
Starting Lineup
PONTEL (1) · PIÑA (5) · GONZALEZ (2) · TREGARTTEN (21) · STABILE (3) · VARGAS (15) · HERNANDEZ (16) · NUÑEZ (7) · PRIMO (8) · FONSECA (9) · RODRIGUEZ (32)Talleres looks to dominate through a high press and rapid verticality in a 5-2-3. This formation focuses on squeezing the space in the final third and using quick transitions to catch the opposition out of position. The goal for Talleres is to maintain intense pressure on the ball and use the width provided by the wing backs to stretch the defence.
In goal, Pontel acts as the foundation for the defensive unit. The back line operates as a back five with Vargas sitting in the center to organize the line. Gonzalez plays as the right centre back to provide cover, while Tregartten occupies the left centre back spot. The wing backs, Piña and Stabile, are expected to push high up the pitch to provide width, which allows the central defenders to defend zonally. When the team loses the ball, Piña and Stabile must track back quickly to restore the defensive block and prevent being caught on the break.
The midfield relies on a double pivot consisting of Hernandez and Nuñez. This pair must work hard to protect the back five and win the second ball in the middle of the pitch. Nuñez and Hernandez are tasked to press aggressively to win the ball high up the pitch, acting as the engine that connects the defensive line to the forwards. They must also cover the spaces left behind by the attacking wing backs to ensure the team does not become too stretched.
The attacking front line uses three attackers to pin the opposition defenders. Fonseca acts as the central striker, tasked to hold up the ball and find the feet of his teammates. On the flanks, Primo and Rodriguez act as wide wingers who look to cut inside and create goal scoring opportunities. These attackers are the first line of defense, pressing the opposition back line to force a long ball and regain possession quickly. The movement of Primo and Rodriguez creates space for the wing backs to overlap and deliver crosses into the box.
This lineup offers great strength in wide overloads when Piña and Stabile join the attack. The team can also achieve high levels of compactness when defending in a mid-block, making it very difficult for opponents to play through the middle. By using the five defenders, the team can easily shift between a defensive low block and an aggressive high press.
This 5-2-3 formation is built to overwhelm opponents through intense pressing and quick wide attacks. It is best suited for matches against teams that struggle to play out from the back under pressure.
